Overview

    GM (General Motors) is one of the most widely owned stocks.

    Since 1956, there have been numerous splits. Also, there have been more complicated stock transactions.

    GM spun off GM class H stock.

    GM spun off GM class E stock, which later became EDS (Electronic Data Systems).

   GM and GM class H exchanged stock for Raytheon (originally Raytheon class A stock).

    GM class H stock becomes Hughes Electronics Corporation. A portion of Hughes is exchanged for News Corporation shares.

    Hughes Electronics Corporation changes its name to the DirecTV group (not DirectTV).

    GM splits off Delphi Automotive Systems Corporation, which is now in bankruptcy.

      If you have not sold out of any of those stocks, you now own GM, EDS (which will or has been sold to HP), Raytheon, News Corp Class A and DirecTV.
